Employers warn of action for not paying minimum wages to interns

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has warned of action against employers who pay minimum wages to interns.

The ministry issued this warning in a press release today. Likewise, the Ministry has urged all to fully comply with the provisions related to minimum wages and social security in line with the Labour Act, 2074 BS and prevailing laws.

The Ministry has stated that it has received complaints that health workers and nursing staff, teachers and employees of private and institutional schools as well as people working at various institutions have not been provided with basic wages and other facilities as per the stipulation. “Serious attention has been drawn to this,” the ministry said.

The Ministry has clarified that action would be taken as per the law if such training workers were found deprived of basic wages and other perks against the Labour Act and prevailing laws.
