According to scientists, this event could become the most powerful super El Niño in the last 150 years. If this happens, the global average temperature could set a new record. In many countries, extreme heat, droughts, and heavy rainfall may increase the occurrence of extreme weather events. This prediction is based on data from several climate models.
Super El Niño is not a new phenomenon. This happens when the waters of the Pacific Ocean are warmer than normal. Its effects extend beyond the oceans and affect the weather of many countries around the world. Therefore, scientists are constantly monitoring it.
Nearly 90 percent of hundreds of predictions made by 14 different climate models indicate this year’s tropical Pacific Ocean temperature could be the highest in 150 years, according to Berkeley Earth, a California-based organization. Sea surface temperatures could rise as much as 3.6 degrees Celsius above normal.
The previous strongest super El Niño event was recorded in 2015–16. At that time, the increase was about 2.75 degrees Celsius.
According to scientists, the Earth is already warming due to global warming. If Super El Niño also becomes too strong at this time, the combined effect could further increase global temperatures. This can lead to heat waves, droughts, and other extreme weather events in many countries.
For now, it’s just a guess. The new ocean temperature and weather data will provide a clearer picture in the coming months.
