Commercial banks invest Rs 2.25 billion in tourism sector, how much from whom? (with list)

Kathmandu. Current fiscal year 2082. In the first five months of the fiscal year, more than Rs 2.25 billion has been disbursed by commercial banks in the tourism sector.

According to the data released by Nepal Rastra Bank, 20 commercial banks have disbursed loans worth Rs 225.34 billion in the tourism sector till mid-December. Previous fiscal year 2081. In the same period of 1982, the banks had extended loans of Rs 214.59 billion to the region. Such loans have increased by 5.01 percent in the review period compared to the previous year.

Compared to the previous year, the loan investment of 15 banks increased while the loan of five banks decreased in the review period. Nepal Investment Mega Bank is the largest loan disburser in the tourism sector while Citizens Bank is ahead in terms of growth rate.

Nepal Investment Mega Bank Limited (NIBL) has disbursed Rs 22.72 billion in loan till mid-December of the current FY. It was 3.93 percent lower than the same period last year. In the same period of the previous year, the bank had disbursed loans of Rs 23.65 billion.

Prabhu Bank is in second place. The bank has disbursed loans worth Rs 22.44 billion in the tourism sector during the review period. In the previous fiscal year, the bank disbursed Rs 20.87 billion. In the review period, the loan from the bank increased by 7.56 percent compared to the previous year.

Prime Commercial Bank is the third largest lender in the tourism sector. In the review period, the loan disbursement increased by 14.08 percent to Rs 21.22 billion from Rs 18.60 billion in the previous year.

Standard Chartered Bank is the least invested bank in the tourism sector. The bank has invested only Rs 80.39 crore as of mid-December of the current FY. It was 35.31 percent lower than the same period last year.

Similarly, NIC Asia Bank has seen the highest contraction in its loan investment. In the review period, NIC Asia Bank’s loan investment in the tourism sector declined by 54.53 percent to Rs 2.62 billion compared to the previous year.
