CNI congratulates newly elected FCAN executive committee, stresses need to increase investment in infrastructure sector

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has congratulated and welcomed the newly elected executive committee of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN). At a reception held at the CNI’s Secretariat on Tuesday, CNI’s President Birendra Raj Pandey congratulated the newly elected President of FNCCI Nicholas Pandey and other office-bearers.

On the occasion, discussions were held on the issue of high inflation in petroleum products and its effects, the Public Procurement Act and amendment to the Public Procurement Act that the government is going to amend. The government has stressed on the need to provide concessions as in the past as the cost of construction materials has increased due to high price of petroleum products.

On the occasion, CNI President Pandey stressed the need to move ahead collaboratively on policy and legal reforms for the development of overall economy. He said that investment should be increased in the infrastructure development and other sectors to make the economy of about 45 billion dollars to $100 billion in the next 10 years. According to him, the Confederation has been implementing the ‘Make in Nepal’ campaign to create employment in the country, increase the consumption of domestic goods and build a self-reliant economy. He stressed the need of amending the Public Procurement Act to provide a long-term solution.

Newly-elected president of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) Pandey said that it was easier to move ahead by collaborating with the Confederation of Contractors’ Association (CNI) as the Confederation has given top priority to infrastructure development. Stressing that the government should not halt development works just because there is no money for infrastructure development, he said investment should be increased through alternative sources.

The newly elected office-bearers of the FNCCI, CANI office-bearer member Sandip Sharda, YCNC President Basanta Bahadur Chand and CNI’s Director General Dr. Madhav Kumar Shrestha were present on the occasion. Ghanshyam Ojha and others.
