Kathmandu. Jyotsna Shrestha, vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has announced her team for the upcoming elections. She announced her team under the leadership of FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
Candidate for the post of vice-president Shrestha said that her faction’s victory is certain as it has the strong support of FNCCI President Dhakal. Stating that the current economic and business environment of Nepal is a challenging situation, she said that the role of the private sector was very important at this time. “If we all work together, we will be able to improve the business environment and make progress. A new government has been formed in the country and it has taken some positive steps. Hopefully, the country will pick up economic momentum. ’
However, Shrestha said that the active role of all the private sector is necessary to move forward. “The State should realize that the private sector is the main engine of the country’s economy,” she said, adding that the government should take the private sector into confidence as it contributes more than 81 per cent to the country’s GDP, 86 per cent to employment and 80 per cent to revenue. In addition, these issues should be taken into consideration by the state while formulating every policy, rules and laws. ’
Shrestha argued that the arrest of some businessmen has made the government serious about fulfilling the country’s desire for development and prosperity only when the state takes the private sector into confidence. “We want to appeal to the government to stop the detention of any businessman only on the basis of accusation,” she said, adding that the entrepreneurs have been helping the nation by producing goods, providing services, creating employment and collecting revenue through their businesses. A businessman is associated with the employment of thousands of people and the production and flow of many goods and services. Therefore, the decision to detain a businessman should not be made only on the basis of any allegations. ’
Stating that action should be taken against those found guilty after completing the investigation, Shrestha said that they would not have any objection to doing so and would send a message that there is a safe and stable investment environment in the country. He argues that investment can be expanded only if there is an environment in which entrepreneurs can operate their business confidently.

Dhakal said that the new team under the leadership of Shrestha should complete the unfinished work of the federation. “The incumbent government has implemented the Private Sector Protection Plan and it should be forwarded promptly,” he said, adding, “I wish the Shrestha group victory in the upcoming election as I have finally entered the election process although I am in favor of unanimity.” ’
Giving information about his group, Sachin Dhakal said that Shrestha has come with the team to work in a policy level by collaborating with the private sector and the government. “To make Shrestha’s team victorious, it is not only to win the election of the individual but also to work for the rights of the private sector,” said Dhakal, adding, “It is necessary to create an environment for entrepreneurship and business in the country in the coming days.” ’
