Cabinet tables decision to remove education and health parity fee

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has decided to scrap the 3 percent parity fee in the education and health sector. After consultation with Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen), he decided to revoke the fee for the time being through a ministerial decision on Wednesday.

The fee announced in the budget of the fiscal year 2083/84 came into effect from July 17. The government had started discussions to remove the fee after public complaints grew regarding the imposed fee. In this regard, a long consultation was held between the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister on Monday. Then on Tuesday afternoon, the Prime Minister announced that the process of removing the fee would be started.

The ministerial-level decision to fully waive the education parity fee levied under Section 16 of the Finance Act 2083 and the Health Equality Fee levied under Section 17 of the Finance Act has been submitted to the Council of Ministers today.
