Bird flu confirmed in Sundarharaicha and Urlabari of Morang

Kathmandu. The Department of Livestock Services has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) or bird flu disease in chickens of Sundar Haraicha 4 and Urlabari Municipality-8 of Morang.

According to the Department, the disease was confirmed on the basis of the results obtained on March 18 at the Central Livestock Disease Investigation Laboratory.

As per the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, a disease control team has been mobilized to declare the affected areas as bird flu affected areas immediately after the disease was confirmed, said Director General of the Department, Dr. Umesh Dahal informed.

According to the Department, the disease control works have been started by declaring four forts in the affected area as per the Bird Flu Control Regulations-2078. A team of veterinary experts has been carrying out the campaign to destroy domestic chickens, ducks, turkeys, eggs, feed, equipment and hygiene materials. Also, the movement of livestock and livestock products has been completely banned.

The Department of Livestock Services has issued an 11-point precautionary directive, urging the public to help control the disease. These include preventing the entry of unwanted people into the firm, using disinfectants, using personal protective equipment, not selling fresh meat without a health check-up in meat shops.

Director General of the Department, Dr. Umesh Dahal has appealed to all the stakeholders to adopt precaution and cooperate with the Department for the control of the disease.
