KATHMANDU: The one-party government of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) today has decided to give a public holiday for the government offices and educational institutions on Sunday for two days in a week. The government has decided to give a two-day holiday in view of the supply of petroleum products.
With the government’s decision to give a two-day holiday in a week, the share market will be opened from Monday to Friday from next week. “The stock market has already opened on Sunday this week,” a Nepse source said, “So the market will be closed on Sunday next week and preparations are being made to open on Friday.” ’
Spokesperson of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), Murahari Parajuli, said that the board of directors of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) will take a decision on operating the market on Friday. “There has been no conversation about this at the moment. The NEPSE Board of Directors will decide,” he said.
Prior to this, the stock market had opened on Friday from May 6, 2022. At that time, the then government had also decided to give a public holiday on Saturday and Sunday for two days in a week.
However, the then government had withdrawn its decision to give a holiday for two days a week within a month. However, from June 15, 2022, NEPSE had decided to open the stock market for six days a week, Sunday to Friday. At that time, the market was open until 1 p.m. on Fridays.
At that time, NEPSE had decided to stop trading on Friday, saying that the share market which opened on Friday for a few weeks was not practical again.
