Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The new government led by senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balen Shah has announced to develop the country’s energy sector as the major basis for economic transformation.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle of Prime Minister Balen’s cabinet has given priority to energy and water resources in 100 agendas today. It is stated in the agenda that decision on PPA and license pending should be made within 180 days with the objective of developing the country’s energy sector as the main basis for economic transformation and ensuring rapid development by removing obstacles related to power generation, transmission, distribution and export.
Likewise, the energy export strategy will be prepared within a month. “A strategy to focus electricity exports on high-value markets (especially evening peak hours) will be implemented immediately,” reads the agenda.
In the agenda, it has been announced to prepare a roadmap for structural reforms of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and immediately implement it. “Multidimensional financial structure (public, private, foreign and diaspora investment) will be developed for the management of long-term financial resources in the energy sector. Likewise, the concerned bodies will set a clear timeline for the implementation of these reforms,” the agenda reads.
