British Airways flight BA276 departed from Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for London at 7:45 am (local time) on Wednesday. The flight travel time was 10 hours and 35 minutes. The night before the flight, the three pilots were staying at the same regular hotel in Hyderabad arranged by the airline. Before starting their journey, the three had breakfast in the lounge and then took off.

Shortly after boarding, the pilots’ health began to deteriorate. When the plane was at an altitude of 30,000 feet, the health of one pilot deteriorated so much that he had to be given oxygen. Despite all the difficulties, the airline claims that the safety of passengers has not been compromised under any circumstances.

Upon landing in London, the pilot was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery. The surgery lasted for 12 hours. According to reports, the pilots said they drank bottled water from an outside company after breakfast in the hotel’s lounge. The other two pilots were also suffering from food poisoning but were not in critical condition.

Two pilots continued their flight with mild health problems. The flight landed safely at Terminal 3 of London Heathrow Airport at 2:05 p.m. (local time). The three pilots were then taken for medical evaluation. A critically ill pilot was admitted and underwent surgery.

British Airways said in a statement: “The health of our colleagues is our top priority. We are reviewing the crew accommodation at this location following separate patient reports. We are happy that passenger safety was not compromised at any stage. —Agency
