Kathmandu: A corruption case has been filed against Surya Prasad Silwal, the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority, in the Special Court, Kathmandu. The case filed by Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday to the Special Court has led to termination of his job.
CIAA accused Silwal of multiple offenses, including manipulating his birthdate on official documents, securing fraudulent citizenship and diplomatic passports, and unlawfully continuing in office despite reaching the mandatory retirement age.
Silwal allegedly altered his birthdate to remain in his position beyond the age of 65, the legal retirement age, and misused his authority to derive benefits worth NPR 3.6 million. The CIAA investigation revealed discrepancies in various official records, including his citizenship, passports, and academic credentials.
Based on the findings, Silwal faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, for engaging in prohibited activities and misrepresenting personal information. The CIAA has demanded the recovery of the misappropriated benefits and additional penalties under relevant legal provisions.
With only one and a half months remaining in Silwal’s tenure, the CIAA has filed a corruption case against him. Silwal, a former administrator, assumed the role of Chairman on 22 Magh 2077, for a four-year term.
A complaint accusing Silwal of falsifying his age on his citizenship documents was filed with the CIAA a year ago, leading to the current legal action.
