Kathmandu: The Health Insurance Board (HIB) disbursed a total of NPR 8.64 billion within the last seven months of the current financial year 2079-80. According to the press release on its 7th anniversary, a total of 64,54,774 members of 19,94,338 households were enrolled in the Health Insurance Scheme under the social welfare program of the state.
About, 45 percent, or 28,93,572 people only have made claims under the Scheme. The enrollment renewal figure is disappointing. According to the Board, only 70 percent of the total enrollment only got renewed for the current financial year. The total number of claims entertained was 43,37,773 in the current FY.
The HIB provides healthcare services through 457 health institutes spread across the 77 districts in the seven provinces.
The Federal Government allocated a total of NPR 17.32 billion for the Health Insurance Scheme, out of which 52 percent, or NPR 9.97 billion already spent by the HIB. It has collected a total of 9.15 billion against the enrollment and renewal fee from the public. To date, HIB disbursed a total of NPR 33.65 billion to the affiliated health institutions against health insurance claims.
4,98,722 Ultra poor, 7,77,816 senior citizens, 32,530 HIV-infected, 1,22,154 permanent total disabled, 3,017 tuberculosis patients, and 1,09,607 female health volunteers are enrolled in the Scheme free of cots. HIB allocates NPR 2.47 billion against the subsidy for the enrollment and renewal fee for the marginalized group. Out of the total budget allocated for the marginalized group, a total of NPR 1.91 billion has already been spent by the HIB within the last seven months.
