Remittance Inflow Up by 20 pc, Balance of Payment Remained at Surplus: NRB

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank(NRB), the central bank, has witnessed a surge in remittance inflow by the first four months of the current financial year 2079-80. The inward remittance increased by 20.4 percent as compared to the same period of the last financial year 2078-79.

In the four months of the current financial year a total of Rs.3 trillion 78 billion 40 million. In the same period of the previous year, the remittance inflow decreased by 7.0 percent. Remittance inflows in US dollars increased by 10.8 percent and reached USD 2.93 billion. Last year, the inflow decreased by 7.3 percent.

During the review period, the number of Nepalese workers who received the final work permit (institutional and individual-new) for foreign employment increased by 102.5 percent and reached 1,95,196. Similarly, the number of Nepalese workers who renewed labor permits for foreign employment increased by 46.4 percent during the review period and reached 87,428. The number has increased by 249.1 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to NRB, in the first four months of the current financial year, the balance of payment remained at a surplus of Rs. 20 billion. During the same period of the previous financial year, the balance of payment was at a loss of Rs.1 trillion 50 billion 38 crores.
