Kathmandu: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has directed the Insurance Board to come up with suitable options for payment of Corona Insurance claims. During the discussion with the team including the Chairman of the Board Surya Prasad Silwal, there was a discussion on how to settle the pending claim of Corona Insurance.
Though no concrete instructions were issued during the discussion, Minister Sharma said that he could not pay such a large amount at once and directed to look for various alternatives. Discussions have been held on the resources and measures required for the payment of claims.
Sharma directed the Board to start preparations for further study on the issue. More than Rs.11 billion remains to be paid for Corona insurance. According to the Corona Insurance Standards 2077, the Government of Nepal has to pay all the claims above Rs. 3.5 billion.
Insurance companies are now in trouble as the government of Nepal has not paid billions of rupees under its obligations. Payments through the Corona Insurance Pool have been completely stopped.
