Kathmandu. After the Republican Party’s major defeat in the mid-term elections, the US Treasury Department on Wednesday imposed new sanctions on Indian and Turkish companies. <\/p>\n
The ministry has warned that it will continue to take action against any person or entity that supports the Iranian regime. The sanctions are part of the Trump administration’s ‘Operation Economic Outcast’. The purpose of which is to prevent Iran from raising money through oil sales. <\/p>\n
Sharing the ministry’s decision on Wednesday, Finance Minister Scott Besant wrote on X, “We have said many times that under Operation Economic Outcast, you are either with us or against us. We know where you are. We will impose sanctions against those who continue to support the Iranian regime, whether they do so from land, sea or air.” \u2019<\/p>\n
“Today, as part of Operation Economic Outcast, a major criminal network belonging to India-based Sunil Kumar Sharma and his wife Jaspreet Shahid was targeted,” the ministry’s decision said. It was supporting Iran’s shadow fleet. \u2019<\/p>\n
The banned list includes Ashwani Kumar Dhiman (Chandigarh) and Ishwinder Singh (Chandigarh). <\/p>\n
The banned companies include Alexaria Media and Entertainment, Aryvart Maritime and Educational Trust, Alexaria Finserv, Aryvart Ship Management (Chandigarh), Eswatini Maritime Affairs and International Ship Registry (Singapore), Fuego Ground Services Inc (Turkey), Oceanic Technologies India (Chandigarh), Polynesia Maritime (Chandigarh), Precept Trends (Chandigarh) and Vihara Boating (Kerala). <\/p>\n
As part of this network’s plan, the banned ships were given fake flags and fake certificates. These ships were used to transport Iranian petroleum. These included ships operating on behalf of the Iranian military and its affiliates. <\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that the Republican Party suffered a historic defeat in Tuesday’s midterm elections. It lost its majority in both chambers.
