Based on the statistics and details of the agricultural sector of the annual study report on the economic situation of Madhesh Province published by the Nepal Rastra Bank, it seems that special attention should be paid to the promotion of agricultural insurance and expansion of access for the promotion of agriculture in the country. <\/p>\n
The report points out that the agricultural sector of Madhesh Province is rain-fed and the area and production of crops has decreased due to erratic rainfall, floods and droughts caused by climate change. Therefore, weather index-based insurance is necessary to reduce the risk of damage due to lack of rainfall or natural disasters like floods. <\/p>\n
Comprehensive crop and livestock insurance programs should be taken to the doorsteps of farmers to address the fluctuations in commercial production of food crops, vegetables, fruits and livestock, dairy, fish, meat, goats, etc. <\/p>\n
Since most of the small and marginal farmers are farming on limited land, there is a need to run simple micro-insurance schemes with low premium rates to make it easier for them to access financial services. <\/p>\n
FY 2082. In the year 83, there has been a significant decline in the total cultivable area covered by food, vegetables and fruits in the region. The data also shows that the amount of agricultural production has also contracted due to weather uncertainties, inadequacy of irrigation and natural calamities. <\/p>\n
There is a need to expand access to agricultural insurance to reduce such risks in agriculture and provide protection to the farmers. Emphasis has been laid on the implementation of weather-based insurance system and small farmer-friendly micro agricultural insurance. <\/p>\n
