Fish rain is often heard in stories, but it became a reality 80 years ago. It happened in 1947. When a large number of fish fell from the sky in America. For many, it seemed like something out of a science-fiction novel. It was even more strange. Because these fish were edible. Meteorologists still remember this incident.

On the morning of October 23, 1947, the city of Marksville, Louisiana, experienced one of the most bizarre moments in history. According to Guinness World Records, biologist Alexander Bazkov and his wife Virginia were having dinner at a dinner when their waitress informed them that fish were raining outside.

Fresh fish rain from the sky

}

Writing about it two years later in the journal Science, Bazkov recalled “fish falling from the sky.” Bazkov ran outside to see for himself. According to him, fish up to 9 inches long had fallen in every square yard of an area 1,000 feet long and 80 feet wide. They were all freshwater species found in local rivers and streams. These included largemouth bass, goggle-eyed, sunfish, minnow, and hickory shed.

According to him, hundreds of those fish fell everywhere from the street to the sidewalk and the lawn. The director of the Marksville Bank also said that fish had rained in his yard. While the cashier, J.E. Hickory shed had fallen on the head of the gremillion. These fish were completely fresh and edible. The largest fish in Bazkov’s collection was a bass 9.5 inches long. That was equal to 24 centimeters.

How did this strange thing happen?

Bazkov believed that the current of water was responsible. It was pulling small fish from the nearby warm and shallow lakes, pushing them hundreds of meters into the air. Then they fell so far away that no one saw the storm. The New Orleans Meteorological Department had no idea about it.

James Nelson Gowanloch, chief biologist with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, observed several small storms in Marksville the day before the rain.

In its 1949 report by Guinness, Bajkov supported this idea with a simple question. Could the storm have carried the fish up with the water? The weather that day made the story even more strange. The morning was foggy and calm. However, the fish rain is not limited to Marksville.

According to Guinness, fish expert E.W. counted 78 well-documented fish rain events by gazer in his 1946 review. Officials in Texarkana, Texas, reported fish rain in late 2021. His theory may provide a plausible explanation, but the actual cause of this phenomenon remains unconfirmed. -Agency

Kathmandu.
