KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle and World Bank Group President Ajaya Banga held a high-level bilateral meeting today. <\/p>\n
Finance Minister Wagle, who is leading a delegation to the United States at the invitation of the President of the World Bank, and Chairman Banga met in Washington DC of the United States of America. During the meeting, Wagle discussed the reconstruction of physical and economic infrastructures damaged by the recent floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, macro-economic reforms, and mobilization of resources worth about one billion US dollars for insurance and social protection. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Banga expressed sorrow over the loss caused by floods and disasters in Nepal and pledged to provide significant support in the reconstruction sector. He also appreciated the steps taken by the new government for policy and institutional reforms and stressed the need to expand investment in infrastructure and create employment opportunities within the country. <\/p>\n
Banga said that the World Bank would take new initiatives to expand joint investment in Nepal’s priority areas by coordinating with development partners including the Asian Development Bank and the International Finance Corporation. According to the World Bank Country Director for Nepal, David Sislane, this is the first direct bilateral meeting between the World Bank President and Nepal’s Finance Minister in the last three decades. <\/p>\n
