Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has visited various areas of flood-affected Nuwakot district and conducted on-site monitoring and inspection. He had reached Bidur, the headquarters of Nuwakot, on Saturday morning. In Bidur, he visited the relief and rescue command post under the leadership of the Nepal Army and inquired about the rescue and relief work being carried out. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Major General of the Nepal Army, Ranjit Thapa, who is leading the rescue operation, said that the rescue and relief work of the flood victims was being carried out in an effective manner. He said that the rescue of the missing people has been given top priority since Wednesday and the rescue of people trapped in the tunnels of various hydropower projects has been given high priority. <\/p>\n
He said that along with the rescue, the center is also working on providing temporary shelter, food and other types of relief to the displaced. In this context, he said that there is an urgent need for a bailey bridge in the flood-affected areas. <\/p>\n
Finance Minister Dr. Wagle said that there would be full support and cooperation from the government in rescue, treatment and rehabilitation. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Finance Minister Wagle inspected the air rescue centre and relief materials collection and distribution centre at Gauthali Barrack of the Nepal Army. <\/p>\n
Immediately after this, he met the families of the victims who had been searching for their relatives at the Nepal Army Rescue Center and listened to their problems. <\/p>\n
The family members of the deceased have drawn the attention of Finance Minister Wagle to rescue their family members trapped in different hydropower projects in Nuwakot and Rasuwa. <\/p>\n
Quoting a briefing provided by the Nepal Army, Finance Minister Khatiwada said the rescue of people trapped in tunnel was the top priority and urged the family members to trust the Nepal Army and other security personnel for the rescue of their families. <\/p>\n
Soon after, Finance Minister Wagle went to Dhunge Bazaar, which was devastated by the floods. Inspecting the rescue work going on there, he sought advice from the victim’s family about the status of the damage and the work to be done by the government. <\/p>\n
After this, Finance Minister Wagle went to the historic Devighat Bazaar, which was damaged by the floods. After reaching there, he inspected the damage caused by the floods and met the people who were in distress and assured them that the government was with them. <\/p>\n
He expressed commitment that the government has left no stone unturned in search, relief, treatment and rehabilitation of the missing relatives and would not do so in the days to come. <\/p>\n
He then inspected the damaged concrete bridge area connecting Devighat and Jiling under the Galchhi Rasuwagadhi road section. He also visited the Ayurvedic Centre at Lower Pipaltar and the Holding Centre at Chandra Jyoti School and met the locals who were rescued from Devighat Bazaar and listened to their problems. <\/p>\n
The Finance Minister also met the rescued locals and enquired about their health condition. Wishing them more health, Finance Minister Wagle said that the government will rehabilitate them properly. Finance Minister Wagle also met the medical team of the Armed Police Force deployed for health treatment and inquired about the availability of resources. <\/p>\n
After this, Finance Minister Dr Wagle and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina held discussion with people’s representatives and leaders of political parties of Nuwakot for the need of coordination in rescue, relief, treatment and rehabilitation. <\/p>\n
During the discussion held at the District Coordination Committee Hall on the initiative of the Finance Minister, he made it clear that there would be no shortage of resources from the central government and urged all to unite and work in the post-disaster response. Stating that the central government would provide all kinds of resources and means, he urged the people to work in such a way that there is no shortage of financial resources in the event of a disaster. <\/p>\n
He then went to the Bidur Command Center of the Nepal Army where the last security briefing of the day-long rescue, relief and rehabilitation work was held. During this time, he listened to the briefing of Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Communications Minister Bikram Timilsina and senior officials of the Nepal Army. <\/p>\n
According to the briefing, the rescue of those trapped in the hydropower tunnel is now a top priority.
