Kathmandu. The TVET Industry Council (TIC) has been established at the initiative of five representatives of the private sector in Nepal. The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal, Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI), Federation of Women Entrepreneurs of Nepal and Hotel Association Nepal jointly established the TIC. <\/p>\n
National Planning Commission member Reshu Aryal Dhungana, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Birendra Raj Pandey, Federation of Nepal Micro, Cottage and Small Industries (FNCCI) president Shova Gurung, Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association Nepal president Darshana Shrestha, Hotel Association Nepal president Binayak Shah and Deputy General Secretary of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) Mangal Shahi jointly inaugurated the TIC. <\/p>\n
TIC has been established with the main objective of producing skilled manpower with industry-friendly, demand-driven skills in Nepal’s technical education and vocational training system. The organization registered at the Office of the Company Registrar will collaborate and coordinate with the government, industry, TVET provider organizations and other stakeholders to develop skilled manpower as per the needs of the industry and the demand of the labour market. <\/p>\n
TIC will work collectively on behalf of employers in policy formulation, planning, standards development, curriculum improvement, certification, apprenticeship programs, labour market research and manpower development in collaboration with federal, provincial and local governments, industry, CTEVT, NAVT, TVET providers, universities, commodity associations, sector skill committees and development partners. <\/p>\n
The skills imbalance between training and labour market demand is one of the major challenges in Nepal’s TVET system. Similarly, TVET has been facing challenges such as limited involvement of employers, poor coordination between industry and training providers, limited opportunities for workplace-based learning, lack of competency-based standards and curriculum requirements to suit the needs of the industry, and lack of information on the labour market. President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Birendra Raj Pandey, said that TIC would work effectively to address these challenges. <\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Pandey said that the institute will connect the needs of the private sector from policy formulation to curriculum development, skill demand identification, quality of training, industry-based learning and employment outcomes. <\/p>\n
What is the demand of the market? What are the skills and skilled manpower required by the industry? The organization will also regularly collect information and suggestions from the private sector on which employment opportunities can be created in the coming days and disseminate it to the bodies concerned. <\/p>\n
Pandey said that the stronger the relationship between the demand of the industry and the TVET system, the more the result of skill development can be employment, productivity and economic transformation. <\/p>\n
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Jayaram Adhikari, expressed his views. Director General of the Confederation Dr. On the occasion, Prof Dr Ghanashyam Ojha made a presentation on the objectives of establishing TIC. Ursula Reynolds and Dr. Ramhari Lamichhane said. <\/p>\n
The agency will strengthen private leadership and participation in TVET, bridge the gap between industry demand and workforce skills, promote demand-driven and market-responsive training, and facilitate collaboration among industry, government, training institutions and development partners. Likewise, the organization will be involved in advocating for policies related to skill development and employment promotion, linking new technology and skills required in the industry to the TVET system, and strengthening the research and information system related to the labor market. <\/p>\n
The TIC will have an 11-member board of directors. Leadership will be transferred every two years among the founding member organizations. The first president of the TIC will be headed by the president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI). The board of directors will also include experts from TVET and labour market. <\/p>\n
