Issuing a press release on Tuesday, Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Hemraj Aryal, said that the government’s attention has been drawn towards the incident that took place at Kaptangunj of Dewangunj Rural Municipality-3 in Sunsari since July 26. <\/p>\n
Reminding that the Nepali society has been living in the spirit of religious tolerance, mutual unity and social harmony for centuries, the statement reads, “Violence and confrontation cannot resolve any problem or dispute.” “The Government of Nepal heartily appeals to all concerned to refrain from indulging in activities that could undermine religious and communal tolerance, not to provoke or spread misleading information and exercise high restraint without being influenced by such information,” the statement reads. <\/p>\n
Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, Home Minister Sudan Gurung, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal and Minister for Water Resources and Energy Biraj Bhakta Shrestha are among the ministers in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Shah. However, Prime Minister Shah has not taken any interest in issuing a message urging people to maintain social harmony in the current tense situation in Sunsari. <\/p>\n
The clash broke out between a group of people heading towards Baraha area of Sunsari on Sunday night with DJ music and the locals of the settlements. One person was killed and 22 others were injured when police used force to control the clash. <\/p>\n
The situation in Sunsari is still tense. The fire of dispute in the village has now spread to Sunsari district. The Sunsanari District Administration Office has imposed curfew along the East-West Highway up to the border of Koshi Barrage until the situation returns to normal. <\/p>\n
