Kathmandu. The clouds of war are once again looming over the Middle East. Tensions between the US and Iran appear to have escalated into an open military confrontation. <\/p>\n
Iran on Sunday announced that it would close the Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, “until further notice”. Hours after this announcement, the US has launched fresh air strikes on several Iranian military bases and strategic areas. This escalating tension between the two countries has once again become a major threat to global oil and gas supplies. <\/p>\n
The navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement that one of the ships violated the designated sea route and shut down its navigation systems. Despite the warning, the ship did not change course. It was then targeted. \u2019<\/p>\n
The Corps said several other vessels also attempted to transit through unauthorized routes. After this, Iran decided to close all of Hormuz until further notice. <\/p>\n
Immediately after Iran’s move, the US stepped up its retaliatory action. On Sunday, the U.S. military launched new airstrikes against several Iranian military bases, Korps-affiliated facilities and strategic installations in the south. This is the second day in a row that the US has targeted Iranian military targets. The US has accused Iran of planning attacks on three commercial tankers belonging to Qatar and Saudi Arabia this week. This has led to retaliatory attacks. <\/p>\n
According to the US Central Command, this week is the third phase of military action against Iran.
