Kathmandu. The Office of the Special Public Prosecutor has filed a corruption case against former chairpersons of Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) Madan Kumar Dahal and Sharad Ojha on the charge of abusing the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). <\/p>\n
The Office of the Special Public Prosecutor on Thursday filed a charge-sheet against 43 persons including Dahal and Ojha at the Special Court on the basis of the investigation report of the police. Among the defendants, Dahal and Ojha have been accused of abusing regulatory authority and taking decisions contrary to law. <\/p>\n
In the chargesheet, it has been alleged that they have acted in violation of the existing laws and regulatory standards related to insurance and caused harm to the state and the stakeholders. The lawsuit has pointed out serious irregularities in the decision-making process within the Insurance Authority, which is in the capacity of the regulator. <\/p>\n
Dahal was currently serving as a secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the Sudurpaschim Province Government. He was suspended immediately after the case was filed. Another accused, Ojha, was sacked by the government following a dispute over lack of qualifications. Although Ojha had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking reinstatement, it did not issue an order in his favour. <\/p>\n
Surya Prasad Silwal, who was the chairman of the party before Ojha, is also facing trial at the Supreme Court on charges of corruption and misuse of office. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case at the Special Court against him for his age, misuse of passport and misuse of government facilities. However, Silwal was acquitted even though the CIAA had filed a case against him with serious charges and evidences. The Supreme Court (SC) has filed an appeal at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) citing that it was not satisfied with the Special Court’s verdict.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
