Kathmandu. The Office of the Auditor General in its annual report has raised the issue of expensive medical equipment being provided to big hospitals with high pressure of patients, but not being used for years. <\/p>\n
The 63rd report of the Comptroller and Auditor General has drawn the attention of the government towards the fact that health equipment, which are considered very sensitive in the treatment of patients, have been turned into scrap in various pretexts. <\/p>\n
According to the report, medical equipment worth Rs 360 million purchased for National Trauma Centre, Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Nepal Police Hospital, Singha Durbar Baidhyakhana and Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj are lying idle for years. <\/p>\n
According to the report of the Comptroller General, a Cathlab machine worth Rs 53.78 million has been stored at the National Trauma Center since 2072 BS. CT scan system worth Rs 247.79 million, 14 ventilators and five C-arm machines are also out of use in this hospital. <\/p>\n
Similarly, 300 sets of lead ECG cables worth Rs 72.60 lakh are also stored at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku. Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj has been equipped with an X-ray machine, endo-urology set, laparoscopy system and anesthesia machine worth Rs 4.90 crore. <\/p>\n
According to the report, 60 types of machines were found to be out of use at the Singha Durbar Baidyakhana Development Committee, the government agency that produces Ayurvedic medicines. Equipment such as single rotary tableting machine, automatic capsule filling machine and powder filling machine have been stored in the hospital. Apart from this, Nepal Police Hospital Maharajgunj has also not been able to use a 16-slice CT scan machine and a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine. <\/p>\n
Since these equipment are regular maintenance and use period, the period of repair or after-sales service has also expired. <\/p>\n
It has been alleged that the Ministry of Health, Department of Health Services and hospital administration have been involved in the business of purchasing expensive equipment without the management of human resources and without need and justification. Since the actual condition of the equipment is not known when the equipment is purchased without manpower, the tendency to cause loss to the state treasury by purchasing inferior or damaged equipment is dominant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
