The research section of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) is conducting a program to measure the satisfaction of the employees working in the insurance company.

During the survey, the authority collected information about the workload and responsibility status of each employee of the insurer, employee satisfaction with the work performance and work environment, and opportunities provided to the employees for career development.

The authority has collected information from the employees on the basis of objective questions and answers through Google Sheet. In course of collecting details through the survey, the NRA has assured that the personal facts and information collected in the survey will be kept confidential and will be used only for study purpose. In addition, insurers are trying to avoid the possibility of permanent appointment by appointing employees through a third party instead of appointing them directly.

Leaders of the employees’ union have been complaining that there are many anomalies in the insurance companies regarding employee service, facilities and appointment. The aggrieved employees have complained that the tendency of curtailing the perks and perks of the employees, forcing them to resign after being transferred to unsuitable geography and giving mental stress by making them irresponsible has become widespread.

There is also a complaint that the provision related to leave has been included in the Employees Bye-laws in contradiction with the provision of Labor Act-2074 BS.

The hardest hit are employees who are contractually or hired through third parties. They have been caught in the trap of renewal of contracts time and again. According to the Labor Act, some insurers have been working on contract basis for more than 5 years instead of giving permanent appointment after the completion of a maximum of 6 months of trial period.

Lately, the authority has given priority to the investigation. Only a few months ago, NEA had made public a study report on the impact of micro insurance and the employment status of actuarial analysts.

Kathmandu.
