More than 75 percent of the new software code in Google is currently written by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Especially in a country like Nepa, where thousands of young people are bringing in dollars by working remotely for foreign companies, this global change can be a big shock. This is not just a technical news, but it is a ‘digital earthquake’ that has shaken our economy and education system. <\/p>\n
Changing coding format: No more ‘Type’, it’s Guide’s turn{<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Until a few years ago, the job of developers used to type code by sitting on the keyboard all day. But now the data of companies like Google and Meta says that the next job is not to write code, but to check the code written by AI and give directions. Nepali IT companies such as Leipfrig and IMS Software have also started using AI tools like ‘Amazon Q’ and ‘Co-Pilot’. <\/p>\n As a result, projects that used to take weeks are now being ready in a few days. Mamta Chaudhary, a developer working in Lalitpur, feels that AI has increased self-sufficiency in work, but one’s own mental thinking is gradually decreasing. <\/p>\n Challenges for Nepali Youth: Junior Developer’s Market at Risk <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n This wave of AI can cause the biggest crisis to ‘junior developers’ or students who have just finished college. Earlier, foreign companies used to employ Nepali youth for small and basic coding. Now AI can do that work for free or at a very low cost. If our new graduates only know basic coding and do not know how to run AI, then it will be difficult for them to find a place in the market. <\/p>\n New Door of Opportunity: ‘Prompt Engineer’ and ‘AI Integration’<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Along with the challenges, AI has also opened a new path for Nepali youth. Now, the demand for people who can ‘write code’ (prompt engineering) ability is increasing rather than ‘can write code’. On the other hand, after AI has simplified coding, now the youth of the village who have not studied computer engineering but have good logic have also got a chance to join the digital economy. <\/p>\n The time has come for Nepali developers to change themselves from just ‘coder’ to ‘system architect’. AI may write code, but it is still in the hands of humans to think about which software will solve which problem of people. <\/p>\n Policy conflict: ‘Classroom restrictions, market mandatory’ <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n A strange paradox has now emerged in Nepal’s education system. Some universities have strictly banned the use of AI in exams. Whereas, a person who does not use AI in the market will not get a job. This dilemma of ‘AI in the classroom is wrong but necessary in the market’ has left Nepali students confused. <\/p>\n The Government of Nepal has brought a ‘National AI Policy’, but there is an urgent need to link it to the school curriculum and the needs of the industry, not just on paper. <\/p>\n This 75 percent trend started by Google has made one thing clear that in today’s world, it is not enough to know technology. It is imperative to keep updating yourself with technology. For Nepali developers, this AI era is either an opportunity to become a ‘superpower’ or a threat to become ‘unemployed’.
