Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) has formally implemented the ‘Bill Shock’ control system through the government-owned service provider Nepal Telecom (NTC) to protect consumers from unexpected charges. <\/p>\n
A key feature of this update is the elimination of the automatic de-balance system. Previously, the system used to deduct charges at a higher rate from the main balance once the data pack was expired. <\/p>\n
According to the ministry’s new directive, now money will not be deducted from the main balance without the explicit consent of the user. <\/p>\n
Nepal Telecom will send advance information to the customers to keep them informed. <\/p>\n
Users will get information via SMS or app after using 90% of their data package. <\/p>\n
Users will be advised to renew the package or purchase a new package in order to continue internet service. <\/p>\n
The ministry has allowed users to manage their own data. If a customer wants to access the internet from the main balance after the expiry of the pack, they can manually activate the Payg-as-you-go (PAYG) system. <\/p>\n
How to manage? <\/p>\n
Users can dial *444# to turn the PAYG facility on or off as per their wish. <\/p>\n
This initiative of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology aims to make telecommunication services more transparent and user-friendly.
