Kathmandu. The United States has lowered the risk level in the latest travel advisory issued for its citizens to visit Nepal. <\/p>\n

The US Embassy in Nepal issued a travel advisory on Tuesday downgrading the risk level to Level 2. The risk level for US citizens visiting Nepal has been reduced following the formation of a single government under the leadership of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) senior and parliamentary party leader Balen Shah. <\/p>\n

The advisory noted that the nationwide protests that began in September 2025 have subsided. “The security situation is stable,” the advisory said, adding that protests and local unrest could still occur, especially in urban areas. \u2019<\/p>\n

The advisory advises Americans to stay away from large crowds and follow local authorities’ instructions, as demonstrations can break out without warning and quickly turn violent. <\/p>\n

Emergency Services<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Medical services have a limited capacity to provide routine and emergency care. “Hospitals in Kathmandu are generally better off than other areas, but they can be overcrowded,” the advisory said, adding that there may be shortages of certain equipment or medicines and often require payment before treatment. The Nepali government does not cover the cost of medical treatment for foreigners. \u2019<\/p>\n

Travel to get essential medicines, cover medical exports, obtain health insurance and travel to another country for critical treatment, the advisory cautioned. <\/p>\n

Nepal is regularly affected by earthquakes, floods and landslides. “Earthquakes can occur suddenly and without warning, including in the Kathmandu Valley,” the advisory states, adding that heavy rainfall during the monsoon season from June to September may cause flash floods and landslides. It can block roads, damage buildings, and make it harder to get emergency help. \u2019<\/p>\n

Citizens who have decided to visit Nepal are advised to join the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive important updates and alerts from the US Embassy or Consulate. “It allows U.S. embassies or consulates to make emergency contacts to U.S. citizens in the event of an emergency,” the advisory said. <\/p>\n
