Kathmandu. Two former officials of Bangladesh’s Eastern Insurance Company have been banned from travelling abroad for failing to furnish details of their assets. <\/p>\n
The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court has banned Eastern Insurance’s former deputy managing director Mahmud Hasan and former senior executive vice-president Jannatun Nesa Zakia from travelling abroad. Justice Mohammad Sabbir Faiz passed the order in response to two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Mohammad Riaz Hussain, assistant of the bench of the concerned court, confirmed this to the media. Of the two former executives, Mahmoud Hassan is currently the additional managing director of Crystal Insurance. <\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the commission’s assistant director, Mohamed Ismail, filed a petition in the court seeking a ban on the two officials from traveling abroad. In the case of Mahmud Hassan, the petition states that the allegations of disproportionate assets are being investigated. <\/p>\n
A case filed against Hasan for not submitting his declaration of assets to the commission is also under investigation. “During the course of investigation, reliable sources have revealed that the person named in the complaint may try to flee the country,” the petition said. In this case, a ban on his travel abroad is necessary for a fair investigation of the complaint. \u2019<\/p>\n
On the other hand, similar allegations have been made against Zakia. He is being investigated for amassing assets disproportionate to his known income and a case filed against him for not submitting a declaration of assets to the commission is ongoing. <\/p>\n
