Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm today, especially in the hilly districts. The festival has its own religious, cultural and social significance. However, the Kathmandu District Administration Office has urged people not to celebrate Holi in public this time. <\/p>\n
Keeping in mind the security of the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 4, the government has urged the people to celebrate Holi only in their home compound. Earlier, the District Administration Office (DAO) used to give permission to organize musical programmes in Thamel, Durbar Marg and Basantapur among other places during the Holi festival. <\/p>\n
This year, the government has also banned the sale and distribution of alcohol and the use of musical programs by setting up a stage. According to the District Administration Office, the use of vests, T-shirts, shirts and scarves with election symbols of political parties and candidates’ pictures has also been completely banned. <\/p>\n
