How is Elon Musk’s ‘Great Preparation’?

Kathmandu. Will the earth last forever? Will humans establish colonies outside of Earth? Is life possible on other planets? Science has been searching for answers to these questions for a long time. But now many efforts are bearing fruit.

Many countries are working to unravel the mysteries of the planet through Mars missions. Elon Musk’s company SpaceX is preparing to build a city on Mars. How far have these preparations come, and to what extent will these efforts open the door to space possibilities?

Have you ever wondered what will happen to us humans if there is a big disaster on earth tomorrow? For example, did a large asteroid strike or an incurable virus spread?

Exactly 10 years ago, Elon Musk asked the world the same question in a packed hall in Mexico: “History is going to be divided into two ways.” One way is to stay on earth forever and eventually to end. The other is to become a ‘multiplanetary species’. From that day on, Musk promised to make the Red Planet Mars the second home of humans. But the big question is, is Musk really ready to take us to Mars? If it’s possible, who will take the first step? A man made of flesh and blood, or a robot made of iron?

Musk dreams of building a self-sufficient city of one million people on Mars by 2050. His plan is like a science-fiction movie. He will not directly expose humans to the deadly cold and toxic air of Mars. He plans to land Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot first.

These robots will go there as advance parties and build housing, solar panels and, most importantly, oxygen-generating machines before people arrive. They will search for ice buried underground to produce drinking water and rocket fuel. So that when people come there, they will have the basic infrastructure ready.

The center of this grand preparation is SpaceX’s Starbase in Texas, USA. Elon Musk calls it the gateway to Mars. It aims to build hundreds of Starship rockets every year. The world’s top engineers are involved in this mission, and NASA is also collaborating on technologies such as space refueling. The real weapon of this mission is the Starship V3. This 500-foot-tall steel giant rocket is the most powerful rocket ever built. Its Raptor-3 engine can carry more than 100 tons of cargo to Mars at a time.

Musk has set a target of December 2026. This will be the time when Earth and Mars will be closest to each other. Musk plans to send at least 5 unmanned starships to Mars at this time. If they land safely, people will start sending them in the next 4 years. However, if they crash, the mission will be pushed back another 2 years.

The challenges there are enormous. Because if you think Mars looks like Earth, stop. Mars is a very dangerous world. The average temperature is 62 degrees Celsius. The air is 95% carbon dioxide and less than 1% oxygen. The atmosphere is so thin that it cannot block out the sun’s harmful radiation. Which increases the risk of cancer. In addition, there are large dust storms that block the sun’s rays for weeks.

A day on Earth is 24 hours and 37 minutes, but on Mars, a day is 24 hours and 37 minutes. The gravitational pull of Mars is remarkably weak. It has only 38% of the Earth’s gravity. That is, if you weigh 100 kilograms on Earth, you’ll feel like you’re only 38 kilograms on Mars and be able to do long jumps. Mars is about half the size of Earth, but one year is equivalent to 687 Earth days. That’s about two years. The biggest difference is the sunset. The setting sun appears red on the earth. The thin atmosphere of Mars creates a blue sunset.

There are many mysteries on Mars and India has an important role to play in solving them. In this race to Mars, India’s name is held in high esteem.

Kathmandu. Will the earth last forever?
