Kathmandu. The Global Math Debate League (GMDL), which aims to connect mathematical reasoning with thinking and debating ability, has announced regional and national level programs for 2026. This league is moving forward as an important educational competition in the country with the goal of developing critical thinking, effective expression and problem-solving ability in the school level students. <\/p>\n
Regional competitions will be held throughout February 2026 at five locations across the country, with schools from different regions participating. The regional tournament will begin in Jhapa on February 4 and 5. The tournament will be held in Chitwan on February 7 and 8, Butwal-Bhairahawa on February 10 and 11 and Pokhara on February 13 and 14. The final regional round will be held in Kathmandu on February 16 and 17. <\/p>\n
The national championship will be held in Kathmandu on February 21 and 22, 2026 with the participation of the best teams selected from the regional stage. <\/p>\n
Dibesh Bathija, co-founder of GMDL remarked, “We are developing mathematics not just by rote, but also a subject for debate, reasoning and applications to real-life problems. Through strong partnerships and competitions held across five regions of Nepal, we are preparing a new generation of students who are capable of competing on the world stage. \u201d<\/p>\n
There is active collaboration of various academic and institutional partners in this edition. Britannica Inc., known worldwide for its knowledge and teaching materials, has joined GMDL as its research and skills technology partner. This collaboration has strengthened the league in credible content, in-depth research, and the skills needed for the future. Dubai-based Education and Lab of Future have also been contributing to the success of the league through their experience and support. <\/p>\n
Collaboration at the regional level has also expanded the reach of the league. The tournament to be held in Jhapa will be held in collaboration with Astha College. The tournament will be organized in association with Lumbini World School in Butwal-Bhairahawa while Kumudini Homes School in Pokhara will be the co-host, which is expected to increase the influence of the league in Gandaki Province. <\/p>\n
On the day of the competition, Foodmandu will arrange food as a food partner for the participants and the organizing team. Likewise, TBG Nepal (The Beyond Group Nepal) has expressed its commitment to education and youth development, supporting the initiative as the Fraction Sponsor. <\/p>\n
With the participation of schools across the country and strong support from partners, the Global Math Debate League is changing the way we look at math. It is not just a textbook subject, but is establishing mathematics as a living learning medium connected to debate, logic and practical application. <\/p>\n
