In Uttar Pradesh, a crackdown has been initiated against a gang playing a death game in the name of insurance. <\/p>\n<p>The Sambhal police and administration in Uttar Pradesh have started action against an inter-state gang involved in the brutal murder of sick people by insuring them to grab insurance money. Under the Gangster Act, a total of Rs 11.89 crore worth of illegally acquired assets belonging to this gang will be confiscated. The DM court issued an order on January 7 and issued notices to the suspects. <\/p>\n<p>A joint team of the police and the revenue department took action in Barabanki and Varanasi on Monday. On Tuesday, action was taken in Badaun and Noida. This organized crime syndicate was busted on the night of January 18, 2025. ASP (South) Anukriti Sharma and Rajpura police seized the black Scorpio. Police recovered Rs 11.44 lakh from the car. <\/p>\n<p>Omkareshwar Mishra alias Karan Mishra of Phulwaria village in Varanasi Cantonment area and Amit Kumar of Babrala were travelling in the vehicle. At that time, Amit was living in Gajraula. Police confiscated four mobile phones and 19 documents from them. These included credit cards, debit cards, PAN cards and Aadhaar cards. More than 30,000 fake insurance policies, death certificates and other documents were recovered from their mobile phones. <\/p>\n<p>Police investigations have revealed that the accounts linked to these debit cards contain millions of rupees and were fraudulently opened in the name of other people. Further investigation revealed that Omkareshwar Mishra was a third-party investigative officer of a private company and was involved in the investigation of insurance policy claim applications. <\/p>\n<p>Using this position, Omkareshwar established an organized network of insurance claims fraud. As the investigation progressed, it became clear that the gang was not limited to insurance. The gang members were also involved in fake Aadhaar card making, tractor scams, finance and loan scams and were active in 12 states. <\/p>\n<p>More than 25 cases were registered at eight police stations in the district and several nearby districts. As a result, more than 70 people were sentenced to prison. This includes people from Assam, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. <\/p>\n<p>On August 22 last year, action was taken against 25 people under the Gangster Act at Rajpura police station. Inspector in-charge Sant Kumar is investigating the case. <\/p>\n<p>According to the police, the assets worth Rs 1.26 crore belonging to the main accused Omkareshwar Mishra in Varanasi are worth Rs 1.26 crore. Sachin Sharma alias Monu has assets worth Rs 9.18 crore in Babrala, Noida and Badaun of Sambhal, while Sachin&#8217;s brother Gaurav Sharma has assets worth Rs 1.44 crore.
