Kathmandu. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday paved the way for the Trump administration to resume deportations of immigrants, including in conflict zones such as South Sudan. A conservative majority of the court’s judge paved the way for migrants to be transferred to a third country. <\/p>\n
According to The Guardian, a brief but unsigned court order suspended a federal court judge’s decision in Boston, claiming that sending migrants to certain countries that agree to take them away faces the risk of torture, harassment, or death, so they should have a “meaningful opportunity” in the U.S. <\/p>\n
As a result of Monday’s ruling, the U.S. administration will now be allowed to quickly deport immigrants to “third countries,” including a group of men held at a U.S. military base in Djibouti that the administration is trying to send to South Sudan. <\/p>\n
The Department of Homeland Security welcomed the decision as a “victory for the safety and security of the American people.” <\/p>\n
“The department can now enforce its statutory authority and send illegal immigrants to countries willing to accept,” spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “<\/p>\n
In response to Monday’s ruling, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said: “The Supreme Court’s stay on the left-wing district judge’s injunction reaffirms the president’s authority to remove criminal illegal immigrants from our country and make America safer again.” “<\/p>\n
The court has not made public any explanation for its decision, and ordered the judge’s decision to be stayed while the appeal process is underway. Three liberal judges strongly disagreed with the court’s order. <\/p>\n
In a dissenting opinion, Judge Sonia Sotomayer accused the court of “rewarding anarchy by allowing the government to violate the due process rights of immigrants facing deportation.” <\/p>\n
