Global IME Bank Celebrates 19th Anniversary: 19 Social Responsibility Programs

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank Limited has announced that it will be conducting 19 positive programs under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. The bank, established as the leading commercial bank of Nepal, has come up with a program of social contribution on the occasion of its anniversary.

On the occasion of its 18th anniversary last year, the bank had organized various programmes including humanitarian assistance, education, health, environment conservation, financial literacy, among others. On the occasion of its 18th anniversary, the bank had announced to plant 18,000 saplings across the country.

Last year, the bank had planted 21,000 saplings in collaboration with local governments, local organizations and community organizations that are useful for environment conservation, livelihood and income generation.

On the occasion of its 19th anniversary, the bank will launch such programs nationwide, focusing on education, health, environmental protection, financial literacy and humanitarian assistance, income enhancement, and income enhancement.

Among these programs, the Global IME Healthy Women Initiative is an important program. The bank will be conducting 14 health camps free of cost in all seven provinces.

In the camp, gynecologists will provide health check-up, cervical cancer (VIA) screening, uterine prolapse treatment and medicine distribution. During the camp, the surgical treatment of women who were diagnosed in the initial stage and seriously ill would also be done in the second phase.

More than 10,000 women have been benefitted from the programme which has been run in collaboration with the Family Planning Association of Nepal for the past five years. The bank will organize eye check-up and cataract surgery camps in seven places of seven provinces. The bank believes that this program will help in the treatment of eye problems of poor, indigent and low-income people of remote areas who have not received treatment due to lack of money.

In addition, the bank will provide eye-check-up to 1,500 poor, indigent and low-income students of government and community schools free of cost. The bank will also provide health services to poor and low-income communities by organizing health camps in all seven provinces.

In addition, the bank will provide financial support for the treatment of patients suffering from complex and chronic diseases. On the recommendation of the local bodies and health institutions, the bank will provide a certain amount of support for the treatment of complicated diseases. In the education sector, the bank has been providing scholarships to poor and meritorious girls from grade 6 to 12. From benefitting 140 girl students in the past five years, the program will now be expanded to 77 more girls.

Programs such as building libraries in remote schools, distributing school uniforms and educational materials to 1,000 students, first aid training, and handing over materials are also included. The bank will provide financial support to meritorious students pursuing M.Phil and Ph.D. courses in economics, management and law faculties.

Plastic replacement, tree plantation, sanitation and waste collection centre will be established under the Global Green School Programme. Waste management training will be conducted in coordination with the local level. Blood donation programs will be organized in major cities and food and other assistance will be provided to children in ashrams and children’s homes.

With the development of information technology and the adoption of modern technology, awareness programs will be conducted about autism in children and necessary support will be provided to them. With an aim to build the nation by producing healthy and disciplined human resources, the bank will distribute sports equipment to poor, underprivileged and low-income communities and schools in remote areas.

In addition, the bank will run an entrepreneurship program with the objective of enhancing income generating capacity. Under this entrepreneurship program, vocational and skill training will be provided to poor and low-income people. The bank will conduct financial literacy programs through its 352 branches to spread awareness on the need to reduce electronic fraud and theft and to bring maximum population into the banking system.

All these initiatives are expected to directly benefit the weaker sections of the society and contribute to long-term development. Global IME Bank has set a new example in the banking sector of Nepal by linking its anniversary with social responsibility. The bank’s programs will cover all seven provinces of the country including poor, impoverished and low-income communities.

This effort is expected to have a major impact on health, education and environmental awareness.
